FESTIVAL...

Having watched both the junior and senior groups I am over the moon at the standard of both the choreography and the dancers – They really are outstanding. I do hope many of you go along to support them the dates are as follows Worthing … 4th March at Worthing Pavillion, Brighton … 28th April at The Hawth, Crawley.

Welcome back…

I do hope you all had a lovely relaxing Christmas and a well earned rest.  It was most odd to have the whole of Christmas off, no pantomime, 1st time in 8 years…. But if I am honest I really loved having family time.  A great big thank you to all the parents and students that gave me such lovely presents, I put them all under the tree & left them there till Christmas, I of course have more than anyone else!!!! Somewhat concerned about my hygiene as nearly all were smellies!!! I loved them all & now smell great!!! Many of you ask what do us teachers do over the holidays, mainly work!!! Its imperative as teachers that we keep ourselves current and up to date which means constantly going on refresher courses and with so much work changing, learning the new syllabus.
Myself and Miss Robyn have been learning the new advanced 1 modern (ISTD) syllabus, which is amazing, but sooo hard!!!  These are usually on Sundays as it’s the only days teachers have off!!!!
Miss Kirsty and I have also been learning the new Grade 4 Tap (ISTD) this is now in style of the new Grade 5 so its trendy and great fun, the students absolutely love it.  Miss Kirsty has the luxury of going to a weeks course in the summer holidays at Chichester – just for teachers. I used to do this every year – pre children = ther you can learn every genre and of course as a teacher your syllabus work is always completely u to scratch and perfect.
Mr Paul and Miss Deborah have been learning the new Grade 1-3 RAD ballet and it too is absolutely lovely and Mr Paul has learnt all the new majors work this is extremely hard but gorgeous.
Miss Kirsty & Miss Robyn are both training to take their next teaching qualification which means they will become licenciates – (the letters after our names). Miss Kirsty is taking hers in March and is using Laura Leigh & Jade as her demonstrators, which means they have to go to London and be her ‘guinea pigs’!!!
There are so many dance schools around in Sussex now I think it is imperative that our teaching staff are as qualified as possible and that their syllabus work is current. You the pupils deserve the best!!!!
As ever excellent exam results, I am really proud of you all and well done to all the staff for all their hard work.
Please check the board as all the exact times and pianist rehearsals are all on the board.

SPONSORSHIP …

Thank you to all of you whom have sponsored me for the half marathon, on Sunday 19th February, your support is greatly appreciated.  I would really like all of you to come and support me, I have put a map of the route up for you all to see and I expect to see you all cheering me along.

SHOP & UNIFORM …

ZIP UP JACKETS AND HOODIES ARE NOW IN STOCK.  These are extremely popular and excellent value. Skinny ribbed t-shirt and Rox trousers on order should be here soon.
Character skirts, we now have a supplier, see reception, for them to measure your waist and length required.  Usually delivered within a week of ordering.

CONGRATULATIONS …

Well done to Laura Leigh Parter who has been a pupil with us since she was 3 years old.  She has successfully auditioned for Laines Theatre Arts in Epsom, Surrey, & for MGA here in Hove.  Depending on her getting a grant determines where she goes to college. – I’m sure she will excel in which ever college she goes to.  I am sure you all join me in congratulating her.

INVOICES …

Just a reminder that students will continue to be invoiced unless we receive written notification informing us that the student no longer wish to participate. This is applicable for all classes i.e if you wish to drop 1 class you need to send a notice 6 weeks prior to the end of term or you will still be billed. We always reply to notifications by letter within 7 days.  ONLY payments received and processed in the 1st week of term are eligible for the early payment discount, and payments not received by half term are subject to £10 surcharge per class.  The deadline has now passed for notices for effect from the beginning of the Spring Term.  All notices received from now on will be for the Summer term.

Mr STUART …

As of the middle of March Mr Stuart will resume his teaching here at Rox, He will return to Drama and the Boys classes on Saturday.  I am sure he will miss the show, but appreciate the extra time with his family.  I know we have all missed having him here, so I am sure you will all be pleased to see him return.

SOUND SYSTEM...

I am sure most of you will have seen if not heard the new sound system in Studio 1.  This is a huge investment to improve the quality of sound in the studio to make the sound for exams and classes better as well and the security as the system is within a locked cabinet.

UNIFORM …

I REALLY DON’T LIKE TO WHINGE, BUT UNIFORM IS AN IMPORTANT PART OF TRAINING, AND I AM SEVERELY DISAPPOINTED TO HAVE TO REMIND PUPILS ATTENDING SINGING AND DRAMA TO ATTEND CLASSES IN THE RIGHT UNIFORM.  PUPILS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE THE CLASSROOM IF THEY ARE NOT APPROPRIATELY ATTIRED.

Whilst I appreciate that not everyone can afford the uniform out right, it is not acceptable to send your child in other named hoodies i.e. pineapple etc,  It is acceptable to wear, plain black trousers, and a plain (without logo or motif) t-shirt preferably white.  We don’t have these items on sale in reception, with our logo, if you so wish.

FUTURE…

We do from frequently discuss with parents of children that show particular potential the possibility of auditioning for the Royal Ballet School. If you are inclined to think your child will end up in the performing arts and want guidance, with regard to current training and or applying for performing arts colleges and their requirements, I am more than happy to discuss options with you, please email me and we can arrange a mutually agreeable time slot with out disrupting the time table.
